I grew up with some painful beliefs about God, myself and others. Some of those beliefs had me attempting to take my own life and did cause several of my friends to do so successfully! This is why I write and I hope and pray that something I write may open up a window of God’s Grace for you!
“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.” – Matthew 23:8-9
For years I had heard this passage used to bash Catholics and Jews – there is a spiritual term for the use of scripture to bash anyone – the term is “hogwash” in polite circles!
The only group that Christ “bashed” and he did so Very eloquently I might add, were those who felt they had arrived! They had flowing robes and traveled over great distances to create another “child of hell” – take a look at all of Matthew 23 and you will see what I mean.
So what are we to make of this passage that Jesus made in this chapter on hypocrisy? Why did Jesus go to such extremes to say that religious leaders were full of hogwash and how does this relate to God’s Grace and Love? Do religious leaders today still “tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders” – You bet your sweet petunias they do!
My Only Teacher is Jesus! My Only Father is God! As such the first question out of my mouth in any given moment needs to be – “What is the lesson Teacher? What is it that I need to see Father?” If you hear any voice other than “Love and Rest in my Love for you” – ignore it! Is this easy in the heat of the moment – LOL – if you want easy the path of Love is Not for you!
A man after God’s own heart and a man that is of God is Not the one that stands up and gives the best sermon, says the best way to stop sinning or tells you to memorize two verses and call him in the morning.
The man of God is the one who helps set people Free by their Faith in God’s Grace, picks up the weak and looks into their eyes with Love and compassion, gives Hope to the hopeless, Peace to those with internal wars and sets the captive of the law Free!
“It is for Freedom sake that Christ has set you Free! Stand firm then and do not let yourself be burdened again by the yoke of slavery!” Galatians 5:1
