What is it that keeps you safe?
Please read 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9
Vs. 8”But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
In the daylight being sober is simply Being, Here, Now through God’s Grace and the evidence of that is a growing ability to Love like a Love beyond human comprehension.
If this sounds like an impossible occurrence- it is! Unless a person is “In Christ” this kind of Love will never Be evident except in small and contrived moments.
So many things, thoughts and doings can keep us from this kind of Love! So in this Bible study I want to focus on what can bring that Love through us which for me IS the spiritual path:
1) Let us Be sober– If your purpose in live is anything other than Loving- then you are not sober! For some this is alcohol for others this is religion for others power or money or shopping or TV. Whatever you turn to in order to try to soothe your pain is what makes you non-sober!
2) Putting on Faith and Love as a Breastplate– This moment you are in reading these words and thinking the thoughts and surrounded by the people you are surrounded by has been EXACTLY planned out just for you right here and right now by a God who Loves You- have faith in that! Once you do- you can Love like there is no tomorrow- and this breastplate will keep you safe!!
3) The Hope of Salvation as a Helmet– What keeps your mind clear is the knowledge that He, (The All knowing God who Loves me more than anything) He has my back! He has this moment under control even in the direst of circumstances and the most desperate on situations- He still Loves me and has my back! My last breath here is my first breath in paradise resting!!
Try this meditation for a few days. Find a time when you probably won’t be disturbed and start by taking several deep breaths. With every exhale try to relax a bit more and gain a mental picture of you being in the arms of Love and being gently rocked back and forth Once you feel relaxed and have this picture:
Breathe in and say:
“God let me Be”
Breathe out and say:
“in Your Love”
Practice in this way perhaps for several days, weeks or until you sense that God’s Love is flowing to you and through you to all those around!
Don’t worry- Be Grace-Full!!
