Who is asleep spiritually?
How does spiritual sleep affect us?
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’” – Matthew 25:44-45
After years of wrestling the same demon in my soul I had to ask God why I was blessed to have it. His answer was and is my salvation. God said, “My son never forget how depraved you are without the cross upon which I nailed your illness.”
My “illness” is rather simple but highly complex- I am human! Thank God He has blessed me with something to make me never forget.
Like Paul’s thorn in the flesh- God only allows these things on those He blesses.
Why blessed to wrestle with the same demon and pain for a lifetime? Because the alternative is being spiritually asleep.
The spiritually asleep are those that think they are good. They actually think they have lived a good life and have offered God something by “doing” all the right things. As a result they have forgotten just how amazing His gift really is.
But just how does spiritually sleep affect us? It looks like this; a person goes to all the right churches and clubs and belongs to all the right groups and never does certain things and always gives their money to help others and always says the right thing and always looks the right way.
But in this doing right. In this looking right. In this belonging to all the right groups and hearing how wonderful they are, they forget one very important thing- who they are without Christ, where their goodness came from and most importantly they forget the lest of His children.
Essentially these people will rely on writing a check to help the lest of His children but god forbid they should get their hands dirty and if they do it’s for the cameras or the approval of one of their organizations.
Yes I thank God for my demon for it reminds me constantly how unworthy I am to have the Lamb of God living inside me. My demon that I wrestle with reminds me that I am nothing without Him.
Always remember that two things make a person spiritually ineffective. One is caring around the guilt and shame that Jesus carried to the cross with Him. The other is thinking that you have done something to deserve it.
The Love of God. The Love from Above will surpass your wildest expectations. It’s immeasurable and unending in its scope. But perhaps most importantly it’s totally undeserved and unearned.
