Jesus and values!
Did Jesus have a very clear idea of what mattered?
Outside of the cross did He show those values?
“While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.” – Matthew 9:18-22
Ever wonder what would shorten the speech of the world’s greatest Lover?
Could it be people in need as opposed to debate on legalism and the law?
In this passage Jesus was describing Grace and the new covenant when a synagogue leader (whom Jesus could have seen as a enemy since so many of the establishment didnt like His ways) “came and knelt before Him.” This had to take tremendous faith on the part of the synagogue leader as he did so in front of all his peers.
Instead of a continued talk about the law and right and wrong which would never change a person with a stone head. “Jesus got up and went with him (the synagogue leader).”
Why?
Could it be that Jesus had His priorities straight?
Love mattered more to Jesus than convincing others or arguing about things that would never end. Jesus was not about discussing silly things that didn’t matter. He was all about Loving and showing others what it meant to Love.
On the way to the synagogue leaders house a woman who had been afflicted for 12 years struggled to get close enough to Jesus and through the crowd she managed to touch just a little of His cloak. Jesus felt it and turned to her and said, “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.”
Was it the touch that healed her?
No, it was the faith that she had that this Man was the Son of God. This Man didn’t care to debate law but instead to show Love. This Man who could have spent His time doing 1001 other things showed us through every thing He did that Love was and is ALL THAT MATTERS.
Would you care to be like Christ?
Jesus healed the little girl and the woman that day and the news spread like wild fire I am sure, but Jesus didn’t heal to fill offering plates and in fact He tried to NOT make the healings public and he wanted those healed to stay quiet.
Why did He do them?
Could it be that He healed people because He loved them and cared about them?
Could it be that the reason He healed people is that He wanted people to see that the “kingdom of God” was there and healing is within reach?
Don’t worry Be Grace-Full
JESUS MEETS PEOPLE AT THE POINT OF THEIR NEED! This explains the two line account of Mt. 8:14-15, healing of a simple fever (Peter’s mother-in-law), being sandwiched between two great and notable miracles. (Healing of the centurion’s servant from afar and calming the seas.) Big or small, greater or lesser, Jesus meets people at the point of their need. What need have you today? Trust Him. He’ll meet you there.
