God wants His children to take comfort and refuge in Him Alone. He was and Is and Always will be going to extremes to show you and I this kind of Love for a very simple reason – GOD IS LOVE! In fact Gods Love is so perfect that He knows where other “things of this earth” will lead you – a void that can Only be filled by Love! In His Mercy and His Grace. He will let you fall and He will fall right beside you and in front of you to catch you before you hit bottom. The law is the power of sin and the reason for your fall!
“The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” – Luke 4:5-8
You could have it ALL but if you don’t have Love – you have and are nothing – paraphrased from the great Love chapter 1 Corinthians 13.
God knows this and so does the devil – neither one could ever be seen as an idiot nor could we imagine how well either one knows our deepest secrets and inner pain – Only One wants to Love you though!
With that being said let’s look at how the devil tempted Jesus here – once again as in “The Temptations of Christ – 2” – look close and you will see this looks like a good thing doesn’t it? This looks like some mega-churches I could think of that grow comfort, size and all in the name of doing “Gods Business” as if He is incapable of guiding the people there He wants.
Let’s look at another way this same temptation is played out today. It’s a good thing to provide for your family, make them comfortable and create a safe and good comfortable home for them right? In fact if you bow down and worship the god of religion and good deeds you “look right” – don’t you? After all you have to look out for yourself because no one else will and every one knows “God helps those who help themselves” – I think that’s in the book of the Bible right after Revelation or before Genesis.
How does this relate to the Son of God having “no place to rest His head?” Could this have something to do with where Faith grows and IF there is any True Faith at all?
I am not talking about a check written based on guilty feelings – I am talking about a willingness to honestly look at what we are comfortable with and in and answer questions in ourselves about that.
Thank-Fully this comfort based temptation like all the others – Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior knew Who He was and Whose He was – can we say the same when our ship comes in or we just want a little more comfort?
