Are you bowing at the altar of the “god of doing”?

Could it be that an idol is simply something made by our hands?

Could it be that your works and effort are idols?

Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the LORD.’ ” – Jonah 2:8-9

Is it possible that one reason the rich young ruler walked away from Jesus was because he wasn’t willing to give up what he had built or made with his hands?

Think about it and answer me this:

What is your salvation in?

Is it in the works that you do? The job that you have, the money you have in the bank, the home you have, your rank or position or perhaps even in your position in a church or group.

Pray that God would show you God-dependence!

The message of the cross is about a dependence on Christ and a relationship with God based on that dependence. It’s not about what you can do or what you can bring to the table. I will give you a hint- if you “come to the table” with anything other than or more than broken parts you won’t have a seat.

The passage above was the key to Jonah getting out of the belly of the fish-Why?

Perhaps he learned something very valuable in the belly? Perhaps you are in a belly right now?

God’s Love for you is so complete that it doesn’t matter if you become disabled or even labeled- He still Loves you with a Love that will not end.

So why did Jonah have to be in the belly and why was I in a counseling treatment center and why are you thinking suicidal thoughts?

Here is a meditation for you. Find a time and a place where you probably won’t be disturbed. Take several deep breaths and with every exhale let go of your stress a bit more and really relax as best you can. Once you are a bit relaxed focus on your breathing and with every one:

Breathe in and say:

My salvation

Breathe out and say:

Is God alone

Practice this for a few minutes and as you go through the day as it comes to mind just say to yourself “Salvation comes from the LORDand let Him perform a miracle in you.
