At one time I worked with a man who used to be a great pilot. Until he hurt his back he was one of the greatest pilots that Special Operations had. Once he hurt his back, he couldn’t fly and because he couldn’t do the one thing that he had excelled at and that created a huge ego boost for him, he became bitter and hated God, his life and everyone around him except Jack Daniels and Jim Bean – instead of God as comfort he got it from alcohol.
“For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.” 2 Corinthians 1:5-6
The sufferings of Christ were based on His Great Love for us – look at what made Jesus weep. When He looked out over Jerusalem He wept because they were religiously oppressed instead of Spiritually Free!
Most Christians live in a religious matrix that causes a box checking numbness to attempt to fill the Love based relationship that God desperately wants and needs to have with them.
If you follow the path of Grace there will be suffering because God needs to create the heart of Jesus in you!
What does that look like?
1) Love for the Father – Your life will focus and revolve around a Relationship with God – God will allow things to happen that break away the ego, legalism and anything else that keeps you from seeing Him as the Loving Father He longs to be for you!
2) Unconditional Lover for others – Your life will be based on Loving unconditionally and creating a safe and Loving image of the Father for others!
The suffering could include failure to keep the law, shame, guilt, depression – the list is endless But the result I pray and God desires is the same – SEE GOD AS YOUR SOLE SOURCE OF COMFORT! SEE A REALATIONSHIP WITH HIM AS THE SINGLE MOST VALUABLE AND PRECIOUS AND MEANINGFUL IN YOUR LIFE!
