One day a man came to Jesus and said, “I don’t think I really need you, no offense but I have followed the law and frankly I am Really good at “doing” all that the law requires” – Jesus turned to the man and said,

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27-28

I have always found it a very interesting fact that Jesus spoke so little of the law and when He did He took it to extremes! Ever wonder why?

In this same passage He talks about gouging out your eye and cutting off your hand – ever wonder why?

One reason Jesus is “ever confusing and confounding” is that the same Jesus that taught this above, broke the Sabbath law! We can hem and haw about it but like it or not He broke Sabbath law and Not just once!

How do we reconcile this and What on earth was Jesus trying to say? Should we have a medical facility in our churches so we can gouge out eyes and cut off hands?

IF you look at this passage in the light of The Gospel of Grace you can put the spoon down that you were going to use for gouging out your eyes and you can begin to see the purpose of the law, the Gift of Christ And your Reconciled state of Being by Believing in Christ Alone!

To say that Jesus pushed the envelope is like saying that Noah had a small raft – Jesus Totally Recreated your relationship with God by His death, burial and resurrection – NOT by following the law but by Fulfilling it and IF you invite Him into your heart – “It Is Finished!” You are reconciled to God Almighty with Nothing more to prove – So Rest in Him!
