As the young social worker walked into the brothel with Jesus she excitedly said, “and Jesus we are going to tell these women what they are doing is a scourge on society and get them a job training program and…” Jesus stopped her and said, “let’s start this way” and with that Jesus gently hugged the first woman at the brothel that He saw and said, “you are deeply Loved by The God of All Creation just as you are, you are fearfully and wonderfully made.”
“As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”’ – Luke 7:38-39
Jesus did Not come to gain the approval of the socially accepted law followers! He didn’t come to impress you or me or any of “the powers that be” from the past, present or future! Let me be Very clear about this because this Is The Gospel of The Grace of God 101 –
JESUS CAME TO LOVE!
Jesus Came to Love – now go and do likewise!
Not only did Jesus come to Love and establish that Love fulfilled law but lets look at a few other interesting learning points of this story:
- This woman worshiped Jesus in brokenness without a word being said from her to Jesus! She didn’t beg for forgiveness or pray to Him she simply Loved Him and recognized Who He was!
- The religious man was the Only one in this story that Jesus said had done anything wrong. Jesus never scolded or condemned the woman!
- At the end of this story Jesus said something to the woman after He had planted a seed of Grace in the religious man – do you remember what He said?
“Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” – Luke 7:48
In this first exchange of audible words between Jesus Christ and a sinful woman, Jesus Christ, The Son of God Almighty forgave All her sins!
He didn’t do this for the religious man but He did it for the woman who simply acknowledged Who He was in her actions – not even her words! WOW! What a Savior and WOW what a Love is this!
