What causes death?

There are two covenants between people and God mentioned throughout the Bible the one in the passage below sounds like a good one to avoid- would you agree?

Isaiah 28:14-15

Vs. 14 “Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem. You boast, “We have entered into a covenant with death, with the realm of the dead we have made an agreement.”

The book of Isaiah is known for its prophecy of Christ and this passage from chapter 28 is no exception. The people that ruled Jerusalem were the most rule bound, law based anally retentive people on the planet. They had made a “covenant with death” and that covenant was the law for righteousness sake.

Now let’s take a look at a much better covenant!

Please read Romans 8:1-2

Vs. 1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Time and again in the New Testament “the law” was referred to or referenced as a tool of death or in some way associated with death. Why?

Simple answer- law brings death we can either die to it here and be “born again” in Christ or we can die from it at our physical death and deal with the shame and guilt of it from now on- choice is yours but this is the reason Christ came- “the new covenant!”

I am not saying that the law is bad- it brought me to Jesus and the Truth set me free!! If a train wreck healed an illness I had I would be very glad for the train wreck but I wouldn’t want to have a continual train wreck in my life once I was healed would I?

“You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you Free”. “You are a new creation in Him and ALL things became new”. “One who abides in Him cannot sin.”

These are all scriptural references to the state of one who accepts Christ- To say that one can leave this state is to crucify Him again.

Don’t worry-Be Grace-Full!!
