In our last devotional “Why do people hate….?” we began to look at why people choose religion over Love. In this devotional we will dig into the first reason:
“Comfort in familiarity”
We like to be comfortable and familiar is comfortable. Its not so comfortable to go on a never ending journey where your last lesson is your last breath.
“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” … Matthew 16:24
The people Jesus talked to here were comfortably familiar with how to act, the laws to follow and how to follow them – But Jesus was different and thats what got Him killed by the “teachers of the law.”
Why did Jesus tell people to “deny themselves” and “take up his cross” and could it have anything to do with the reason why its easier for a “camel to get through the eye of a needle than it is a rich man to enter heaven”?
What does it mean to follow The One Who broke Sabbath to show Love, turned water into wine to avoid embarrassment for a wedding feast family and was accused of being a drunkard and a glutton – and lets not even get into being illegally born, disobedient to His parents and causing major disruptions throughout His life?
