What was it that Jesus absolutely did NOT care about? Why is it that one of “the laws” He broke repeatedly was NOT to care about this? This is a crucial lesson of salvation by Grace through Faith because without this lesson you are a clanging cymbal! Without getting this you are nothing more than another blowhard religious nut job!
Who can hear Jesus?
Is it easier for a sinner to hear Jesus than a religious man?
“Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”’ – Luke 15:1-2
People who need something tend to listen for it more than those who don’t. Say for example a cancer patient; they will listen for any information about a cure much more than someone who has not been diagnosed.
It’s the exact same way with Grace and Law! The biggest problem with the law other than the fact you can’t keep it, is it meets our internal need for something to make us think we are “good enough” or at the very least “better than” the prostitute or someone we think is in some way a wicked person.
Take another look at the passage above and you might notice another interesting concept. While the “tax collectors and sinners” were there to listen the religious people were only concerned with how something looked on the outside!
This is a crucial point to Grace- it’s no longer about looks, it’s about Being!
What does that look like?
LOL- it looks different every time I see it but the basic appearance of the Grace-full person is Loving, kind, patient, non-judging and doesn’t care what another person looks like or what they are doing- they just forgive like there was no yesterday and love like there is no tomorrow!
Here is a meditation for you. Find a time and a place where you probably won’t be disturbed. Start by making a deep shrug of your shoulders and just let them drop. Then take a couple of deep breathes and with each exhale just relax a bit more. When you feel more relaxed and a bit more here and now just go back to breathing normally and as you do:
Breathe in and say:
“Jesus I am here”
Breathe out and say:
“To Love”
Practice this for a few minutes and then just stop and continue with your eyes closed to listen. Those words of Love you hear are His!
