What is the “life that was light?”
What is the “darkness?”
How do we have this life in us?
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:4-5
During a time in my life I like to call the “shut up and think like me” phase I remember having many questions about the whole idea of light and darkness. At the same time as I was going through this phase I was a teenager and like any teenager I had urges. These urges created pain as I felt more sin-full as opposed to Grace-Full.
Once my collapse occurred and I found myself utterly lost and broken at first I began to think bad thoughts toward God as after all what kind of God would give me these urges and then punish me for them.
What if the life that was the light wasn’t a rule book but instead a Lover of those in need?
What if the darkness is actually those who for one reason or another haven’t recognized the need?
What if instead of trying to “convert” people we instead just Loved them?
What if just smiling at the person who is behind the 7-11 counter and obviously having a bad day was actually an act of caring and concern like Jesus showed?
It seems to me that Jesus came for the person but today I see many making this not about the person but about the religion- I wonder if that could be a reason for some things lacking in this world. Things like Love, Peace, Hope and Joy are in short supply and yet I know where the storeroom is and it free.
Here is a meditation for you today. Find a time and a place where you probably won’t be disturbed and begin to take some deep breaths and really relax your jaw as that will allow you to focus on this meditation. As you do get a picture of you focused on Loving others, not converting them. Think what you would be like if your interest was on the Loving the person in pain without trying to make them think like you. As you get this picture:
Breathe in and say:
“Let me shine”
Breathe out and say:
“with Your Love”
Practice this until you can release the anxiety of needing to change people- it’s not your job it’s His!!
