For most the image of Jesus, Who He is and what He did is first and foremost what their church tells them – this is a dangerous identity to place Jesus in as this short devotional will show you!
Is Jesus not what you want?
Could it be that you expect too much from Jesus?
Do you have some idea of what Jesus is supposed to be like and darn it He just isnt hitting the mark?
As a child I begged and prayed and did everything I could to get God to heal my Father from cancer. Did He?
No my Dad dies of cancer when I was 11 and that radically changed my life and my perception of God. It took a whole lot of years and a whole lot of cursing and waving my fist in the air before I was blessed to be broken so that the Master Potter could take the pieces and make something new.
“Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: “ ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’” – Luke 7:31-34
Jesus will not dance to our tune and He will take people and loved ones home. I know as I write this I am watching one in the final stages of that journey just as I have watched many before. We can pray for healing and for health but what if instead we prayed for Gods will to be done and for Him to teach us what He would have us see from this present moment?
God is Love and as I have said before that is one of the few things I am sure of but Love has many different meanings depending on who you ask.
What if we simple said, “God let your will be done and help me to see the lesson through this moment”? He is faithful and just to teach the teachable.
What if we went about each moment with the awareness that it came from the permissive will of God and God is Love?
Would that make our day to day life better?
Here is a meditation for you- ( Find a quiet place at a time when you will not be disturbed or hopefully wont- Long bathroom breaks work great. Meditation doesnt have to be long as long as its focused.)
Breathe in and say:
“Each moment is”
Breathe out and say:
“A gift from God”
While you are saying this imagine God talking to you and telling you why you are right where you are in your life.
