Jesus new, Jesus Knew – 3
“He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent? I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.” Matthew 12:3-6
The temple for the Jewish people was the unattainable, off limits area of perfection that while they would “work toward” they could never attain. Continual sacrifices, repentance and sorrow for breaking the law was required much like the requirements of religious establishments today.
BUT, One “greater than the temple” had come! One “greater than the temple” was walking among them AND One “greater than the temple” comes into the heart and resides within Every one who believes in His name!
What made Jesus new was He ended the need for the law in everyone who believes! What makes Jesus new is that He makes those who believe wHOLeY as He is HOLY with a simple acceptance of His finished work on the cross!
What Jesus Knew is that in His “One Perfect Sacrifice” He would make forever clean that which had to “do” continual sacrifices in the past to try to be temporarily right. What Jesus knew is what after His death would be said in every letter to every church in one wording or another, “Christ is the end of the law for All who believe!”
