Does God get what He wants with you?
“Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” – Mark 9:7
When God speaks I have found it best to listen!
That being said the disciples in this scenario had just had an amazing moment where they actually saw Jesus, Moses and Elijah talking on top of a mountain! Pretty incredible for several reasons but in these 10 short words I find the Majesty of God Almighty revealed!
The law had come to us from God through Moses – the children of Israel already had the law and already followed it for righteousness. Elijah was a major prophet of God and told the people of his day of upcoming doom if they didn’t turn back to God as they had begun to get advice from and follow mini-gods.
Jesus came to bring a path to God once and for all so that no more sacrifices were needed and we would no longer be under the burden of mini-gods one of which Is the law!
Don’t misunderstand me – the law is Good – it brought me to Jesus! The law is very good – it made me stumble in my inadequacy to the feet of Him who made me Adequate before The God of All creation!
But it is extremely important to grasp and understand that the law makes NO ONE Righteous and never did! The law was, is and will always be the thing that gets God what He wants – a relationship with His children!
We will probably never know exactly what Jesus, Moses and Elijah were talking about on that mountain – but here in these 10 perfect words we have a clue:
“This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
Why didn’t God say listen to Him and follow the law? Why didn’t Jesus tell us while He was here “don’t follow me, follow the law better” or “I have come to create a new morality and make it so you can follow the law better”?
GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF in these simple words is inviting you and me and everyone to the new reality – not of building massive structures or following the law to the exactness needed or in any human effort! HE is inviting us to
“Listen to him!”
“Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:37-39
Love therefore IS the fulfillment of the law!
Great word as always brother. Jesus came, lived, died and rose up again on the 3rd day. As the writter of Hebrews tells us, a better covenant. Never making himself God, he eas still God. Praise Him.
Thank you sister!
Great to hear from you and to be encouraged by you!
Amen! “When the High Priest is changed the law is also changed” – our eternal High Priest has created that covenant once and for all!
