When did Jesus put the law in its rightful place?
“Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” – Luke 6:9
In Luke 6 the writer put two Sabbaths where Jesus broke the Sabbath law back to back to illustrate a Huge point to the ministry and life of Jesus –
LOVE TRUMPS LAW!
It was written on everything Jesus touched! Be it the dirty whore that He saved from being stoned, the tax collector saved from his own greed, you saved from your issues or me saved from my ignorance and legalism – the central abiding Truth that was spoken by this simple Man was –
GOD IS LOVE!!
You can see it in His culminating action on the cross, His resurrection and in the life and soul of all who are Truly Grace-Full!
Once we get our head wrapped around this – spiritual life becomes the only life you will choose – even if you leave for a time as I did and most do – you will always come back to a Love that you will never find anywhere or in anyone or in anything on this planet or beyond!
The more you grow in this awareness of His Love, Peace, Joy and All that He offers Freely the more you will want to Be in Him Here and Now!
“Doing good” – just try to convince me that “doing good” is not helping the least of these find this Love and this Peace – not religion to share the pain but The Spirit to set them Free!
“Save life or destroy it” – I would encourage anyone who seeks a spiritual life with Christ to read just one chapter in a book called “Abba’s Child” by Brennan Manning – it’s the second chapter called “The Imposter” – this chapter is the epitome of what my religious life was in the church!
Bob, I realize I have been confused about what the bible says about “the sins of the father being delivered to the fourth generation.” I thought it stayed true regardless of what Jesus did for us on the cross because the Old Testament is still true. This is no longer true once you accept Jesus as your saviour, right? Because he became a curse so that we might be delivered from the curse. Can you clear this up for me? Thanks, Rod
Great question Rod,
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice – once and for All!
Is the OT still valid – absolutely! Is the law still valid – absolutely! But I am no longer under the law or the burden of sin because of the cross of Christ! The more power we see in and give to the cross and Christ – the easier our yoke and the lighter our burden becomes. If God Is Love and I believe He is – that is the type of relationship He seeks with us.
