Jesus and the fast food sin!

Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?” – Luke 6:2-3

Jesus did what was unlawful! But the key here is Not that He did it but His response.

The law was never meant to be a measuring stick for righteousness – it was only mean to be a sign of our need! When the law is used correctly it points people to a relationship with God based on Love, Peace, Faith, Rest and an Abundant Life!

When it is used incorrectly it is a club used by yourself or others to beat you over the head and make you feel unworthy of God’s Love, which makes you, try harder – which makes you fail more and the hamster wheel of legalism begins.

What results is Not a relationship based on Love with The God who Is Love but instead a constant fear and unease that at any moment you might mess up so you have to be more and more prudish, unloving toward those who are “obviously wrong” and basically a great grand canyon is created between you and God!

You see when Jesus said He “came to give you rest” and He came to “set the captive free” – He was talking to the most legalistically bound people on the planet. Why is that important?

Because most Christians today have sacrificed relationship for religion and therefore have to sacrifice worship for emotional high because the relationship they think they have is about feeling closer to God Not Being closer to God!

Throughout their lives Jesus and Paul were very clear on the idea that the law while very important at getting us To God, was no longer our measuring stick for Being in a relationship with God!

What Is the measuring stick of the New Covenant that Jesus ushered in on the cross – LOVE! Love God and Love your neighbor! Love therefore Is the fulfillment of the law!
