“Be Perfect”
Please read and meditate on Matthew 5:48
Vs. 48 “Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”
Yes just one verse and a simple question.
Do you see Jesus as a sadist?
This verse came at the end of a long passage where Jesus was telling people that “think it in your heart” was the same as doing the actual sin or deed. In fact Jesus pretty much just outlined a whole host of things that you and I are totally incapable of doing.
Don’t think about that really attractive woman and how sexy she looks!
Don’t think about hurting your enemy and how good the revenge would feel!
Please keep in mind Jesus didn’t come to change the law in fact He added to it. But He did fulfill the law and He did make Matthew 5:48 possible for you and for me. You can be as commanded here- Perfect!
Not because anything you did but because of what He did. Yes Jesus was perfect but He was perfect because He was the first person under Grace!
Isn’t it interesting that this passage of “thought sins” is sandwiched between Jesus saying in Matthew 5:20?
“For I tell you unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.”
And Matthew 5:48 saying,
“Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”
Again my question becomes is Jesus sadistic? At this point he added law which added sin and told us to be perfect why would He do that unless it was possible?
With Jesus it is possible! Without Him your best and my best are just filthy rags in the sight of an All Holy God.
The law is good to those under the law because it points the way to Jesus the only way to be perfect.
Will you choose perfection today?

Without the mark of the blood, all our good works are just but filthy rags before God. Thanks bob for the post!
Thank you for sharing Job!
