At the age of 15 I was called a “spiritual adult” by the pastor’s wife of our church. By the age of 17 the whole church was praying for me because I was not in church as much and I was more active in my school activities than in church activities. “I was no longer being faithful to church” – a building! What happened? I got elected class president and I was busy working but the whole church thought I was a backslider because I went to school dances! This is when questions began to pop up – Praise God for His questions!
“When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, “It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat. This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an omer for each person you have in your tent.’ ” – Exodus 16:15-16
Faith for the Grace-Full grows in dependence Not in works!
To know the Love of God and the overwhelming ability of His sufficient Grace you have to see His Faithfulness and Goodness! This doesn’t happen by safety and security it happens by challenge and trials.
I once heard it said that a ship was never built to stay in a safe harbor and this is very much the case of the Grace-Full! I am more than concerned for a person who tells me that someone’s Faith is strong because they are in church 3 or 4 times a week, visit orphanages at Christmas time and pay their tithe!
Why am I concerned? Because they don’t know Grace, understand God’s growth for them or get the idea that God is Not in ceremonial pageantry, doings and effort – He IS In Love!
The reason the children of Israel were to gather Only what they needed for that day, “an omer for each person you have in your tent” is that the next dayGod would show His goodness and ability to provide for the needs of His people again.
God doesn’t give you what you need for tomorrow today – He gives you what you need for today, this moment right Here and Now and for a very good reason – so we will keep looking up and seeing His Goodness, Ability and Love – thus Faith Grows daily!
Care to grow? Today as it is brought to your mind just utter this simple prayer:
“Lord, Increase my Faith” – and then rest in knowing that there will be opportunities for your Faith to grow – Today!
