Is God Pro-Slavery?
Does the Bible tend to lean toward some things that the modern western world says is wrong?
Does anything written in the Bible make you question a Loving God?
“Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:22-24
Paul writes some very specific instructions to slaves and to their masters later in Colossians 4.
Does he say “Free all the slaves!?”
Nope not even close. In fact he basically tells the slaves to be good slaves and even if they have a master “who does wrong” to them, they are expected to be good slaves.
Could it be that Paul is basically saying that where ever you are at – at this moment in time is exactly where God wants you?
Could it be that some “sins” are generational or even cultural and that is why Jesus brought Grace which says “All things are lawful” come to Jesus and be free, come to Jesus and a Love will be put in your heart that will heal you and others?
Not too many years ago a big religious group in America was dumbfounded to realize that they still had it in their charter that they supported slavery and in order to change it they would have to hold a special voting process at their convention. Was anyone there going to vote to continue to support slavery? Obviously not but the press had a great topic.
Here is my point if we focus on right and wrong we take our eyes off of Christ and begin to worry about looks instead of Love. The ultimate result is anger jealousy and strife. If we think everyone should follow some rule book that I do then again it’s about looks and law and NOT about Christ and Love.
My other point is this Jesus and Paul lived and loved in the moment no matter shipwrecked, hanging on a cross or being beaten they were Lovers!
It’s not about the rules you follow its about the Love you show to light the way for others to find the “Peace that passes ALL understanding.”
Your heart is not my heart and it’s NOT my heart that condemns you or yours that condemns mine!
This is so very freeing once you grasp this as now my focus is outward on Love and not inward on guilt and shame.
Live and love in the moment, while waiting for God to change our undesirable situations. Good message!
Thank you so much sister Sandi!
Yes – whatever state we are in God allowed it for a reason that will bring Love to others, Light to the world and Glory to His Name!
