Why doesn’t God want us to burn Korans?
Why doesn’t God kill all people who don’t think just like you?
Why do I want to spend eternity with God?
Please read 1 John 4:15-16
Vs. 15 “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
Just in case someone may have missed it: God is love. The three word sentence just before this one ended with a big huge period!!!
Guess what there is a God and you aren’t it and neither am I- so get over it. But here is the kicker God is love.
What that means to you and to me according to this passage is that there is a very good chance, in fact I would say 100% chance that part of what you believe to be true about God is crap!
The same could be said for what I believe about God except for this one statement: God is love. Again this may come as a shock but the way we can recognize God in a person is by the Love they share NOT by the dogma they spew.
What does this Love look like? Does it look the same in every culture? Do all people share Love and show Love the same?
The Love God has for us to share is non-judgmental, non-condemning Love like He shared with the woman caught in adultery. Some of the main characteristics of Love are perhaps best explained here in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Anytime you need a reminder this is a great meditation for you. Find a time and place and moment when you just breathe in and out and practice this way:
Breathe in and say:
“God is”
Breathe out and say:
“Love”
Practice this way anytime you need to remember who He is and what He is all about- if we as a collective group practice this perhaps there is hope that the light of Love will once again flicker brightly as it did with Jesus.
