Disciples on physical needs
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” – John 4:34-35
Jesus had just finished telling a “terrible” person how He came to give her and her group “living water” – He was on a high as these people were told by the legalist that they were never going to measure up and they could never be as good as those that followed the law and were Jews!
Jesus not only rocked the boat – He sunk it and for the most part not even His disciples got it! The boat He sank was the one that separated you from God!
Jesus made a path for Everyone – that was the plan all along, Gods will and the purpose of Him coming. Just a few verses before He said that salvation came from the Jews and it did in such a unique way – the law made all guilty and condemned, Jesus came to be the end of that law for All who believe!
Is the harvest plentiful? Even more today than ever before – people are comfortable with their own effort and doing, they are separated by God Not because of there doing but because of their misperceptions of God, His Love and His Grace!
Is the harvest plentiful? Now more than ever there are more pain relievers and avenues of avoidance than ever thought possible in the days of Christ!
Jesus is calling His disciples here to a life of Love for All, Acceptance of All and His Grace being that which brings All people to God – His Grace is sufficient, His law got you to Him and Jesus provides The Way, The Truth and The Life for all who have eyes to see and ears to hear – both Jew and terrible Gentile!
Keep this in mind as you look at this entire passage – just for “hanging out” and talking with this woman – Jesus was breaking a law of bad association! Jews were Not allowed to be anywhere around a terrible ragamuffin like a Samaritan or an American.
Jesus broke the walls down, He destroyed in His sacrifice the enmity which kept you from God, He cleared the way for the hurting, broken, beaten and battered like me and you to sit on the lap of Abba and see Him smile at us, the apple of His eye!
