A famous writer once described the condition of most of humanity as a life of “quiet desperation.” The sad reality is that this is especially true for the religious multitude! Jesus knew this and it made Him weep!

What is the reality of the comfortably miserable and who is in that procession of pain?

Who are the comfortably miserable?

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” – 1 Corinthians 13:8

The easiest thing to do is to get lost in what really doesn’t matter. To find myself chasing yet another rabbit down a hole in the ever consuming noise of what the world tells us is important instead of what Christ showed us IS important!

Did Christ willingly go to the cross because He thought it was a “good idea”? Did Christ suffer horrendous punishments and rejection by all to die a cruel death on the cross because He thought He would enjoy the view? NO!

Christ suffered and died because of one indisputable word – LOVE!

Look at hero after hero of the Bible and you will see one underlying reason for what they did – LOVE!

Today so many people get caught up in “the end times” or some new program or idea or new study to make them better, stronger, healthier, richer or wiser – But all that is going to pass away and very soon at that.

Even so there is a comfort in jumping off a cliff with the rest of humanity – the person who follows these will never have to worry about being uncomfortable. In fact you could call these people “comfort jumpers”- always going from one comfort to the next and staying just ahead of their own misery to allow them to occasionally smile when they get to a new prophecy, program or idea that temporarily resonates with them until the next one.

What is the solution to comfort jumping? Focus your gaze on the cross and what do you see? Think of yourself at the worst moment of your life, transpose that with the cross and know that is the reason the cross happened and now what do you see?

If we do not know the Love God has for us we will never know God – and that Love Never Fails! If we want to Be like Christ grow in that Love the Love that will never fail!

Find a time when you probably won’t be disturbed and practice this meditative prayer with your eyes closed:

Breathe in and say:

God grow me

Breathe out and say:

In Love

Practice this way for about 5 minutes a day for a few days and see if God allows some interesting moments to occur in your day.
