Choose Rest
Where was the birth of spirituality foretold?
What does God want to give His people?
”Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people, to whom he said, “This is the resting place, let the weary rest”; and, “This is the place of repose”— but they would not listen. So then, the word of the LORD to them will become: Do this, do that, a rule for this, a rule for that; a little here, a little there— so that as they go they will fall backward; they will be injured and snared and captured.” – Isaiah 28:11-13
Hundreds of years before Christ came, during His time and even today it’s the same problem- some people really think that the word of the Lord is all about “Do this, do that, a rule for this, a rule for that; a little here, a little there.”
To which they keep having the exact same results- “so that as they go they will fall backward; they will be injured and snared and captured.”
I was once told that the definition of insanity was to keep doing the same thing and expect different results- from what I have seen I wholeheartedly agree with that definition and according to this passage and many others like it so does the Bible.
The opposite is what God wants to give His people- “This is the resting place, let the weary rest” but so many choose the painful road of the rule book.
Spirituality as found in Christ IS rest and it IS peace and it IS grace and hope and love! If this is not what you have found or if you care to examine this more fully try this meditation.
Find a time when you probably won’t be disturbed. Take several deep breaths and with each one just relax into it and let Him take your stress. After you feel focused and a bit more relaxed close your eyes and get a picture of you in the arms of Love (God Is Love) and as you do you might want to rock back and forth (I do on this one). Once you feel that Love:
Breathe in and hear God say:
“I Love You forever”
Breathe out and hear God say:
“Rest”
Practice like this until you know that Nothing can separate you from this Love!
