What was it that made the teaching of Jesus so dangerous to a society that held the 10 Commandments so near and dear to them, the Jews?

Have you ever heard the words of Jesus with regard to a “speck of sawdust” and “a plank?”

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?” – Matthew 7:1-4

As I write this I just had a conversation with a sister who like me was brought up in a place or in a way that taught this passage but lived anything but it and there is a simple reason for that.

The law separates – it separates us from God at first because the law is the power of sin but it is also our tutor bringing us to Christ. Once grace sets in the law separates us from joy and from each other but even worse it separates us from Love that is nonjudgmental and non-evaluative.

The law is holy and right and just but it is also that which once its job is done it is done.

Why is it that so many “super ministers” become super fallen by the very thing they yell and scream and get ratings on TV about?

Why is it that the very minister who preaches against homosexuality has gay lovers?

Could it be that whatever we hold up as the “holy grail” of holiness will always fail us?

Anything short of Jesus or anything added to Jesus will fail you every time! This includes your works, effort and laws that you hold near and dear!

So what is the answer? Love and that’s it!

Jesus called us to Love and yes even the great commission tells us the same thing. “Go and make disciples” might just mean “Go and teach others to Love one another” after all wasn’t that what He was teaching His disciples to do?

All you do by preaching law is create self pride which will cause you to stumble because Jesus says, “Hey remember I am the only reason that anyone is Holy.”

Be Holy as He is Holy in you there is no other way!

Don’t worry-Be Grace-Full!

Anything that any person tells you is necessary for salvation other than Jesus- is a lie!
