Can you be still?

“No I cant!” That was my answer once to my father when I was a young boy- but only once. I made this statement to him shortly before he showed me why it was a rather inappropriate response.

In the world in which we live in it is so very easy to NOT just stop and BE HERE NOW. But this is where the peace is perhaps?

Like the scripture says “The kingdom of God is within you.” But the scripture didnt say it would be easy to find. Yes I believe the kingdom is within me but I also believe that there are as many roads to get there as there are people.

Your road might lead you through pain and hurt that I have never experienced but then I have had different pain than you. Jesus lights the path but you have to seek it. He will not usually take you to a “peace that passes all understanding” unless you “search for it with all your heart.” The simple reason is that by “working out your salvation” you gain tools that will allow you to Love others along the road.

Please read Psalms 46:1-11

1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. 4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. 7The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. 8Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

11The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

“God is our refuge” which is a very safe place to dwell. This passage also speaks of God as our “fortress” and other terms to describe the safety net that God CAN provide.

The key for me in this passage is Psalms 46:10

Be still and know that I am God

“Be Still and know that I am God” kind of says it all in the midst of the Tsunami of life and living this is a GREAT practice. To just stop, be still and know that He is God. Everything in your life and not in your life right at this very moment is and is not because He is God and He made it that way. Does this make it better to relax and know that He made it this exact way for you for only this moment in time?

Here is a meditation for you- Get in a quiet place where you hopefully will not be disturbed but if you are God planned it that way so relax and accept the moment He made. Close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths. Then start the following:

Breath in and say:

Be still and know

Breath out and say:

that I am God

As you practice this get a mental picture of Jesus holding up a light as He leads you on the path.

Have a Grace-Full Day!

God is in the still small voice in the quiet moments! His voice is Love!
