The road of the crusty is the path that a being can choose and it is certainly supported by a legalistic frame of reference. This road or path is easy to fall into and typically has its roots in comparison or desire. Many who are on this road don’t appear to be crusty at the moment but they are not at the end of the road, yet!
“Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”’ – John 21:22-23
One of the greatest draw backs to a legalistic life is the god of comparison and the ravaged soul it leaves behind! This is what Paul was talking about by the devil is a roving lion seeking whom he may destroy!
In this passage which was after the resurrection as in so many before His death Jesus said, “Follow me” this is Not something to be taken lightly when seen in the light of who He said it to and the implications it had on those who truly would follow Him!
The command, “Follow me” was the invitation to those who were the ultimate in legalistic, comparison driven, guilt ridden followers of Judaism to change Everything they thought was God and instead follow a way that called for LOVE being the key to the whole thing!
Comparison was over! It ended on the cross! Your boasting is no good! It’s All been paid and there is No reason to look around and judge or evaluate – just look up and LOVE!
Here is the key – This can ONLY happen if the law, which is the power of sin, is no longer the measuring stick in your life! This is why His Grace IS sufficient and you are no longer under the law!
The more law you are under the less Christ you are following! The law is not bad IF used correctly BUT once “in Christ” the law has done its job – Now “Follow Him!”
