Are you spiritually naked?
Could it be that your spiritual clothes dont go together?
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” – Colossians 3:12-14
Isnt it odd how many times words like “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” seem to pop up as traits of “God’s chosen people?”
But how do we put those clothes on? How do we stop being spiritually naked?
Perhaps there is a formula of sorts that is in the end of these verses:
1) Bear with each other- See the pain of the other and understand
2) Forgive as the Lord forgave you- See the cross in the other as Jesus died for ALL!
3) And over all these put on Love- Be Godly for the other- “GOD IS LOVE”
Notice in this passage it didnt say- convert them, force them or anything like try to change them- why?
God puts people and events in our life to change us!
He does the change in us and IF there is change that needs to happen in them He takes care of that- Not me or you.
Change has to come from a spiritual journey and the best way to help others along that path is to follow steps 1- 3 above!! God is Love not Law!!
Dont Worry- Be Grace-Full!!
Wow, Bob! I always read and enjoy and generally agree with everything you write. But this one… I do believe this one is my favorite. It seems like such a simple thing… I mean, most of us could get dressed relatively correctly in the dark. Yet so few of us know how to dress spiritually. And those of us who do know (or, think we have it figured out), can so easily forget at times. Thank you for the reminder, the lesson, and the truth.
Thank you very much Brandi!
I always appreciate your encouragement and contributions.
The point I try to make is that the change – whatever it may be has to come from Above – from Him! I know that many people think they can do it – but that is the wrong way to go! God wants His children to lean on and depend on His work inside them. If the change comes from God it is true change from a spiritual journey where He created the path for us to see what we needed to see in us.
Thank you again for sharing!
