Intro to the Journey

Bob on May 13th, 2012

Great to have you here! I am glad that you stopped by and I hope you will feel free to look around.

This site is about a spiritual journey. The vehicle for this journey is not religion, doctrine or dogma. This journey is not about the place where you end up or what you look like. This journey is ALL about one 4 letter word- LOVE!

Love from Above is a Free gift and the depth of it is the journey that we are on. There are countless potholes, phenominal fellow travelers and tremendous views along the way. No two journeys are the same and while we may travel on the journey for a time together the majority of growth will happen when we can just be still and in solitude reflect.

I am excited you are here and I hope you will read about my journey, listen to the stories I will share and perhaps we will travel together for a while. So come on in, explore and enjoy as we share the wonders of Love, Grace and Peace on the journey!

The only thing you need for spiritual growth in 2013 and beyond are these 6 words- "His Grace is sufficient for me!"

Opening the least likely Gift – 5

Remembering what was past and what is Present brings us to an understanding of Love that defies human logic and is beyond our comprehension – this creates an Amazing Life.

One area where religion and Grace differ perhaps the greatest is in the value of The Gift which is seen very well in verb tense. What I mean by this is that when looking at scripture we need to consider what was, what Is, what is happening and what it shows us about Who The Divine Is.

  1. What was – we “were” weak – we “were sinners.”

  2. What Is – we Are “justified” – we Are “saved.”

  3. What is happening – we are seeing a bigger Love than anyone could imagine.

  4. Who The Divine Is – The Divine shows us that Perfect Love Is the very essence of Who and What The Divine Is.

The Divine Plan, has always been to show the nature of, the very essence of Who The Divine Is so that we will Rest in what was done in order to create a great life here and now based on Faith, Hope and Love.

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” … Romans 5:6-8

Opening the least likely Gift – 4

What our hope is based on matters greatly, especially when we need hope the most.

If our hope is based on our performance we will probably hit a familiar cycle of temporary pain alleviation by any number of means. But if our Hope is grounded on a few unshakable or Faith grown ideas and strengthened by or arrived at by suffering – Then we can actually “rejoice in suffering” as we talked about in “Opening the least likely Gift – 3” – so what are those “Faith Grown ideas”?

  1. We were created and we are in the being that God has created us to be – I will never understand the full reason but I can and need to rest in that being.

  2. We are Loved with a Love that we cannot possibly understand or fathom in our current form – yes even the dark places and in fact especially the dark places.

  3. We grow by Resting (that is Faiths action verb) in the Love that “has been poured into our hearts” – this path of Resting is grown best as we suffer and wrestle with who we are and realize that Perfect Love Loves even that dark part.

  4. With that growth and our acceptance through Perfect Loves Acceptance we develop character through our endurance of being who we are and Resting in The Perfect Love which is What and Who The Divine Is.

The Holy Spirit is “The Comforter” for those who believe in Perfect Love. And this is where most miss the purpose of The One that Jesus left behind.

The Holy Spirit convicts “the world” of sin But if you Rest in (have Faith in) Perfect Love, “you are in the world but not of the world” – How can you be convicted of a law that you are no longer under?

The law will not develop character – only fear and ego. Grace – True Grace is leaving the law for The Love beyond human comprehension because we understand that this path Is the healing path.

“and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” … Romans 5:4-5

Opening the least likely Gift – 3

The greatest moments of spiritual growth happen in my moments of struggle when I ask myself “what is causing this struggle”? And “what does that tell me about The Divine that I believe in”?

When I was religious I looked at struggle as sin, punishment, weakness but never as opportunity – Grace changed that.

As you may recall from “Opening the least likely Gift – 2” there is a spiritual “fight or flight” that occurs and while some try to go with “flight” the mirror of the soul always brings us back to the reality of the pain which is given so we will grow.

So what about the “fighter”? What about the person who sees struggle as opportunity and wants to process pain spiritually instead of hide from it?

Let’s examine how a “flightless flier” vs. a “fighter” deals with struggle:

  1. The flightless will ask “why me god” but the fighter ask “what’s the lesson this moment has for me?”

  2. The flightless will look for an escape but the fighter will look for an education of the soul.

  3. The flightless will seek to hide the struggle but the fighter will to be open and real about the challenges.

  4. The flightless will attach blame but the fighter will seek healing.

  5. The flightless will seek noise and to stay busy but the fighter will seek to be still and rest in knowing that Perfect Love is in control.

“Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance” … Romans 5:2-3

Opening the least likely Gift – 2

As a young boy of five perhaps the most disappointing moment of my year was opening up a Christmas present to find woolen socks hand knitted by my grandmother. As young man of 17 the disappointment was in myself as I could not stop thinking about sexual things and I “knew” what I was thinking about was a sin.

Alas I was a “flightless flier” and that almost killed me – literally.

A “flightless flier” as I mentioned in “Opening the least likely Gift – 1” is someone who spiritually sinks into a comfortable misery in security Outside of “The Gift” often seen in one of the following ways:

  1. Comfortable answers often formed around what makes good human common sense but forces a belief system about The Divine that forces a defensiveness and a group culture of like minded hidden pain. This is most often seen in religious groups with legalist boundaries.

  2. Comfortable pain relievers that are created most evidently in those using drugs, alcohol, sex, power, money or any of a myriad of temporary “feel good” measures to cope with hidden pain. This is can be seen almost anywhere from bars to religious organizations to support groups where a person changes one pain reliever for another.

  3. Comfortable walls that are defended by emotions like anger or logic based scripts that were memorized or taught informally by early significant others and “life lessons.” This is most evident in a bitter older person or often heard in phrases like, “that’s just the way it is” or “just deal with it.”

The reason the above is called a “flightless flier” is due to the idea of the fight or flight response. Instead of taking the journey to “the kingdom of God within” which is a fight against human common sense they flee to a comfortable misery that allows the world to make sense to them. The greatest challenge with this is the mirror of the soul that causes all “flight” from our spiritual journey to be useless as we will have to face our pain.

Opening the least likely Gift

The day that really says the most about a gift is a week or two after it was given. So in keeping with the series I wrote for Christmas, The least likely Gift, I would like to share some thoughts on “The Indescribable Gift” long after it was given.

The Gift and it’s ability to heal is far beyond what we mere mortals can comprehend because The Gift is Divine. While it is humanly comforting to have The Gift in a box, it is soulfully damming and therefore spiritually defeating at best.

So how is it that so many keep “The Gift” in a box?

  1. The religious limit “The Gift” to make their followers feel more right or feel closer to The Divine than other groups or denominations.

  2. The hurt limit “The Gift” by hanging onto the hurt and pain because that makes sense to them and has developed into a comfortable misery.

  3. The deniers limit “The Gift” by human reasoning and mortal logic often brought on by hurt or pain but always used to create a mental and emotional comfort zone.

All 3 of the above create a group I like to call the “flightless fliers” and I will explain that in-depth over the coming days – but for now this is a group that has chosen to flee over fight, again more to come.

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” … 2 Corinthians 9:15

The least likely Gift – 8

The difference between a religious existence and a spiritual life is the size of The Love we Rest in.

To the religious The Gift had and has human limits, to the GraceFull The Gift was and is Divine Perfect Love beyond human comprehension.

To the religious The Gift was and is looked at a dogma and theological doctrine, to the GraceFull The Gift changed forever our connection to Divine Perfect Love beyond human comprehension.

No one involved in the Christmas story stayed the same, no one that is except the religious – and it’s still the same. Why do I believe that:

  1. Because in churches around the world today the idea of “fit our mold” is still felt and taught.

  2. Because the idea of a Messy Messiah with a Message of “All Righteousness” is “by Grace through Faith” while possibly being said is rarely the focal point of most who claim to believe it.

  3. Because the vast majority of “believers” are under the spell of doctrinal comfort laws instead of Resting in the idea that “Christ is the end of the law.”

  4. Because most believe the Love from Above to be affected by our behavior down below.

  5. Because for most the “Savior” that was born, “The Messiah” that came only “saves” the very few that think exactly like them.

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” … John 1:4-5

The least likely Gift – 7

The spiritual journey will leave anyone on it feeling very odd at times and completely rejected at others.

The simple reason for this is the spiritual journey is based solely on faith while the religious one is half faith at best.

What would the Christmas story look like if we focused on religion?

  1. Joseph would have divorced Mary.

  2. Mary would have been stoned or sought some form of abortion.

  3. John the Baptist never would have been born.

  4. Due to the first 2 on this list there would be no Christmas.

  5. We would Not have an image of The Divine as Perfect Love and we would therefore still have an overbearing cosmic policeman idea.

  6. “The Light of The World” which was, is and always will be Love beyond human comprehension would not even be a glimmer.

  7. Because the only light would be more religion we would have the two extremes of religion which are ego on a good day and depression on a bad day.

So what makes the difference?

What gets us out of a religious idea of Christmas and onto the GraceFull journey into a healing understanding?

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” – John 1:4

“For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” – John 1:16-17

The GraceFull journey starts by starting to understanding the full value of the “Indescribable Gift” and resting or having faith that “His Grace is sufficient” for you.

The least likely Gift – 6

What made “the wise men” “wise men” and would the wisdom they followed be any more accepted today than it was then?

One of the greatest ways to tell the difference between religion and Grace is the acceptance of mystery or mystics. The “wise men” were “wise” because they were mystics and due to that they would do crazy things like follow stars and know if rulers wanted to kill them.

So what does it mean to be a mystic and accept The Divine as Mystery:

  1. It means you are willing to stay uncomfortable with most of what you believe.

  2. It means having a greater acceptance of those around you and those that enter your life.

  3. It means resting (having Faith) in the unseen and unknown because of an deep belief that The Divine Is Perfect Love.

  4. It means leaving the idea of morality police for being a light of love, hope and peace for all those around.

  5. It means having “peace that passes all understanding” because of a faith in a greater love and hope.

  6. It means believing that The Divine is in control and that because The Divine is Perfect Love All things will work together to create greater love and hope.

The road of the mystic is not an easy one but it is a necessary one in order to see Grace.

“For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:2

The least likely Gift – 5

Most will never understand the true purpose of The Gift but the ones who foresaw it give us great clues as to why The Gift is THE GIFT.

What if The Gift, which almost everyone in the time of Jesus missed, was still being missed?

What if the challenges and the difficulties the world faces are due to misunderstanding The Gift and by understanding The Gift differently we could make the world a better place?

Joseph and Mary even though visited by angels, still didn’t understand The Gift completely but then I don’t think any of us do – that’s the journey of Grace which broadens our ability to accept others, love others and Rest in Perfect Love beyond human comprehension. But as any good Jewish parents would they took baby Jesus to the temple for “purification” – and yet another twist in the story of The least likely Gift occurs.

At the temple, as if Joseph and Mary didn’t already have enough to worry about – we get confirmation from yet another source that Jesus is not just another good Jewish boy. In fact one person who understood His mission perhaps better than anyone came into the story, Simeon.

Simeon was the first one to talk specifically about the “opposed” as well as the purpose at the heart of the mission of The Gift.

“And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed” Luke 2:34

We were made to fall (that’s the purpose of the law) so that we could be raised up by Perfect Love but most are opposed to this because it creates need and equality.

The above statement is the basis, I believe, of the “Good News” and the center point for Grace, therefore we will dig deeper into this idea in future episodes of “The least likely Gift” so I do hope you will follow along at

If you would like to jump ahead on this journey of understanding our fall and the “lifted up” state that “All” are in because of Perfect Love please check out the link below and if you want go on the journey of the fallen:

The spiritual journey is not about answers but more about Resting in One Answer – Love.

One of the greatest challenges for the spiritual path mans demand for answers over the Spirits invitation to Rest in the glory of the questions.

Everyone in the Christmas story was at first full of fear with the exception of the 3 wisemen. That needs to tell us something right there – what might that say about the GraceFull Journey?

  1. Wisemen Rest in The Light leading to Love despite the distractions of man.

  2. The ideology of the religious is cultural but the journey of Hope and Healing is a spiritual trek of Resting in often unseen Perfect Love.

  3. Our ideas about The Divine grow healthy only as we see The Divine as Perfect Love beyond human comprehension.

  4. The spiritual journey calls for a reflection on Perfect Loves Abilities which creates Abundant Life possibilities.

  5. Growing out of fear and into Faith often looks impossible so that we can see the Power of Perfect Love.

  6. Think on, believe in and follow Perfect Love.

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” Luke 2:19
