These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.”

Thank you! Great comment and wonderful post!!

We share a very similar background. I was raised ver religious and to believe that the only thing that mattered to God was how I performed- this is complete hog wash but that is what I was taught. But let me ask you to chew on a few things that radically changed my relationship to God.

God is NOT religion! God is Love!
    Jesus is NOT the law!
The law was given to show you the need for Love.

When you wrote that the post you read talked about religion I knew you really didnt get where I was coming from. The law was given by God to point us to our need for Him. Does everyone use the law correctly?- Hell No! Just look at your case that you just wrote about above! The same happened in my case- I was told that God was a set of rules and any variance outside of those rules meant I was wrong and God would be angry at me- again God is Love!

I dont mean any disrespect to you at all but let me say this- some people who were very mistaken, told you a lot of crap about Jesus and God that just wasnt true!!!
GOD LOVES YOU!!! He sent His only Son to die for you and He wants to wrap His arms of Love around you and have a relationship with you! To do that you just like me and just like us all need to see our need for Him- this is the purpose of the law. The problem I find that most people have with God is that they try to hold onto Gods Love and Gods law at the same time.

If I really Love God its really easy to see because I will Love others. This is why Jesus said- “Love God and Love one another and thus fulfill the law and the prophets!”

Again no disrespect to you but you are still letting others rule your life by hanging onto their ideas and concepts of who or what God is- and He isnt any of those things that hurt you. You are so very right about the type of person religion will produce- BUT you missed one- religion will also produce a person who is angry at God and who hates God. Check out the “About me” page on this site because that is exactly who and what I was!

A relationship with Christ is NOT based on following a set of rules any more than my relationship with my wife is based on that- Its based on my acknowlegment that He Loves me so very much that He gave everything so that All my shortcomings would be made right.

“Oh well who the hell cares”- I do! God does and so does His Son who hung on a cross just to show you how much He Loves you! Can you show me one place where Jesus asked for any money? or anything other than trust?

God Loves you and so do I! Peace, Love and Grace to you today and always!

  3. admin says:

While I appreciate your opinion and I thank you for sharing I would also say that there are only 6 words that I know for sure “God is Love” and “God Loves you”!

I must also say though that yes I am a sinner as is each and everyone of us and that is why Christ came- to set us free. The yoke of Christ is not heavy and His burden is light- while this is very true a person needs to first realize they have a need for Jesus and that is the shame, guilt and condemnation brought on by the law.

I respect your opinions and thoughts and I hope that you will pray for me just as I will continue to pray and meditate for you.

I am so very blessed by you and what you wrote today. Thank you, Thank you a million times over for what you shared!!

My life is very similar in that the depression and anxiety that I was blessed to have brought me to His Grace and the Grace that I pray continues to flow through me till my last breath here. We are so very fortunate as Jesus didnt come for the healthy for a very simple reason- they dont know how much they need Him!

Thank you again for sharing and for motivating me on to the work He has for me here! I am blessed to know you sister and my prayers, meditations and thoughts are with you!

  5. admin says:

    M,

    AMEN SISTER!!

The purpose of the law is how that study starts out and the purpose was simple- Bring us to the foot of the cross to look up and say, “God have mercy there is nothing good about me!” Once we get that, once we grasp the Amazing Grace-Full gift of the blood of the Lamb- the law has done its job and we are no longer under it! Now we Love like there is no tomorrow and forgive like there was no yesterday, But even that is a power that He does through us. ALL things become new at the point of Christ coming into our lives and if only part of the things become new we will always feel like a car with one flat tire.

I am so very excited and blessed by you and your very Loving responses to Santiago- Thank you for the blessings you allow God to flow through you.

    Hello Sis!

Thank you so much for your well wishes. Yes God is still Amazing me- as I stepped off of what I hope will be my last helo ride for at least a month I was in the camp where I started teaching today.

I will keep you and Linda in my prayers and please keep me in yours- the grace of God is growing and it is always amazing to see the contrast between a relationship not based on rules and a religion like the country that I am currently in.

Its wonderful sharing the journey with you and I pray that His Grace will abound through each of us as the road turns and curves through this beautiful walk of life.

Thank you again sister and I hope we can stay in touch now that I am in a place long term-LOL one month can be a long time.

  7. BRIDGER46 says:

Greetings Bob and Fellow Creations by God,

A few things our Lord Jesus allowed me to notice during my nearly 66 years of living:

Love is the ability to satisfy the needs of others. Jesus satisfied my need for forgiveness by dying on the Cross.

Religions divide people from Jesus and are often not inclusive. I heard the first religion may have been Adam and Eve making clothing out of leaves when they knew they angered God. They were trying to make themselves acceptable again to God. This sounds like a religion to me. Relationship with Lord Jesus is what can bring Grace and Peace. Fellowship with fellow believers is absolutely essential. This is a wonderful forum, but we need other breathing and living and praising and hurting and even us complaining rascals to be with on a weekly basis. Being in Korea, there are Bible fellowships every day.

Vicarious living to me means living without fear. As a former Infantryman in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 and 1970 to 1971 and 1972 to the Ceasefire, I pretty much ignored fear and conqured the enemy before me. When I watched my 13 year old daughter take her last breath in a Japanese hospital, I only had Jesus’ promise that she would be in Heaven waiting for us. Jeni knew Jesus as her Savior before her earthly father knew him. Jesus is God and has a great sense of humor. He must have when he hears the lame and pitiful complaints we all give at different times in our earthly journeys.

The Gaither family provided a beautify song Because He Lives.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH56-aEQlcc This is the Peace that Passseth Understanding promise. Only because of Jesus’ Sacrifical Gift to all who accept Him as Savior – can provide us with this Assurance.

I join others who enjoy praising Jesus as long as He allows me to continue breathing. As a former soldier, we love Acronyms.

Get rid of the fear and the anger and the hatred and the disappointment and the unfairness in your life and the discouragement and the ….. He does provide us with all we need – Jesus’ Love to us and all.

Thank you Brother! I am so very blessed by your message.

I never thought about that as the first religion but wow that is so very true. Trying to make ourselves pleasing to God instead of accepting what Christ did on the cross- that is what religion is all about. Thank you so much for that beautiful wisdom.Thank you also for being such a wonderful example of sharing and caring in the community. I have never met a man like you that shares and shines so much with Love from Above!

Everyone this is my dear Brother in Christ that gives and shares with all who are around him and if you ever get the chance to visit Korea I hope and pray that you will be able to see a man dressed as a clown volunteering his time with the widows and orphans and giving even the breath he has to make balloon creations to brighten their day.

Thank you again for sharing brother- I look forward to seeing you soon,

      M,

Thank you so very much for your kind encouraging words. You have and continue to be such a blessing as I see what God is doing in your life and I want you to know that it has given me a very real sense of energy and peace. My hope and fervent prayer is that these little Bible studies will plant seeds of Grace that in time will harvest souls with the Love from Above that only He can bring.

Thank you again and I hope and pray we chat more when I get back home.

  10. Darrin Adams says:

Amen! I believe a lot of churches start out with Grace teaching for the new believer in Christ, but then end up with rules and regulations, because of Man’s need for controlof the masses. We can’t let someones faith in Christ go to far, they say. Or run amuck. I agree with what you say,by the way. Thank you very much for this site.

    • Bob Hildreth says:

Thank you very much for sharing brother Darrin!
Yes that is so true – people go to seminary and become ministers only after they have learned to control the people into that denomination! Where is the joy of the Lord? It isn’t there any longer because now a person has to keep up with the Baptist or keep up with the Catholics or whoever and “act right” so they can be accepted!
Praise God His Grace is sufficient for me – as I travel around the world I have come back to this irrefutable truth its equally sufficient for the man in Africa that believes in Christ yet his culture teaches him something very different that American culture which is different than Korean culture – and all think they have it right!
      Thank you again brother!

  11. Rom 13:9 K.J.V. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

13:9 The apostle singles out those commandments which forbid acts of unlove against one’s neighbor. They are the commandments against adultery, murder, theft, perjury, and coveting. Love doesn’t exploit another person’s body; immorality does. Love doesn’t take another person’s life; murder does. Love doesn’t steal another person’s property; theft does. Love doesn’t deny justice to others; false witness does. Love doesn’t even entertain wrong desires for another person’s possessions; coveting does.
And if there is any other commandment. Paul could have mentioned one other: “Honor your father and your mother.” They all boil down to the same dictum: Love your neighbor as yourself. Treat him with the same affection, consideration, and kindness that you treat yourself.

    • Bob Hildreth says:

      Thank you for sharing Allan!
I find it interesting as well that in different cultures these commands are perceived in a multitude of different ways. Just one example, I am currently in Korea where honor your father and mother has a very different ring to it than it does in the USA. Other concepts like theft have a very different meaning in the Philippines where I do a lot of work on some human trafficking ideas that I am working on.
In this same chapter Romans 13 – if we read it and take it for what it is worth – my home nation was created based on an act of sin – being disobedient to authority. Again it is interesting that any and all of these thoughts could easily be twisted – I am working through several short stories in my mind – one of which is a meeting where the ministers that kept ministering during the time of Hitler in Nazi Germany would have to find scripture to support what Hitler was doing – that would have been a fascinating meeting to be in – don’t you think?
I appreciate you sharing and I am so very thankful for your support. Prayers would be greatly appreciated as within the next few months we are starting “The Slave School” – through my soon to be non-profit Educate To Empower – this is a school for free vocational training for at risk slaves and current slaves that seek a way out.
I hope we can chat more about this.

Wow! That’s all I can think to say. Praise Jesus! He brought me to this site at a time that I’ve been so weighted down with trying to keep the law that I’ve live everyday in fear and had actually contemplated suicide. As I’ve read thru the posts on your site I felt my muscles in my shoulders release their tense grip, my body relax, bible bumps ripple thru my body. (For me a sign from my spirit, that I’m on the right track) Thank you for helping to bring the joy of the lord back into my life! Love, love, love…. that’s what I was made to do. Love, love, love… God’s love is enough for me and you. God Bless!

PRAISE GOD! Shanna – you have Greatly encouraged me today! THANK YOU! I Praise God for you and for the encouragement you have given my soul through the Lord!
GOD IS SO VERY GOOD! As Grace grows in us and our awareness of Grace grows – we see that! We really see that as a Goodness beyond what we could have ever expected!
Praise God for you and what the Lord is doing in you!
I too was in a suicidal downward spiral and attempted it! I have placed 6 friends in the ground that I can point to them being there because of condemnation and shame
that Christ came to take away!
I am so very thankful to you for your message and saying this it has given me great energy and encouragement – Thank you sister and Thank God!

Thank you so much for sharing this, God is so wonderful as He speaks to His servants in like manner for edification. I have often been allowed the pleasure of sharing a very similar message to many that have differing beliefs on Sabbath observance, Ten Commandments, etc. God’s word when properly applied helps us to gain the true understanding of His message. Blessings to you in your travels and via this valuable tool, the internet.

Thank you so very much – currently in Seoul but this summer I am supposed to cover the Philippines again and Africa for the first time. Legalism is a binding to effort other than the cross in which He paid it all! The trouble is legalism is how most Christians the world over live.
I appreciate your prayers and Praise God for you remembering me in the work the Lord has for me. My prayers are with you as well in the work God has for you! Blessings to you and I hope we see each other on the journey!
